What is my Osteopathy?

  • As a primary health care practitioner, I’m asked time and time again not only what Osteopathy is, but what is Osteopathy for me , and this is my answer :

fluidity

Fluidity of movement, fluidity of nutrients and circulation passing through the body, fluidity of mind.

All parts working together in health

Fluidity is my primary intention when treating someone – no matter the condition, or whether it is a baby or an adult. The different parts of the body are all inter-related and interdependent on each other. When one part fails in function, it relies on another part to keep it sustained and in motion. This can sometimes tire, or even fail, causing pain, dis-ease and slow recovery; a slowing of fluidity. There are many causes of dysfunction to the body that can compromise the body internally. It could be either external (e.g. stress, environment) or internal factors(such as irritable bowel, disc bulge, head pain) - or a combination of a few. These delay or prevent a person from returning to good health. Osteopathy is the deep anatomical understanding of the body, combined with specific diagnostic techniques brought together by various core Osteopathic principles to treat with

Anyone can use techniques, but understanding the reason behind them and what state the body is in is crucial to successful, respectful Osteopathic practice.

When I meet a patient, I have to consider how all parts of their body relate to each other and what is not working the way it should be. Why, when there is dysfunction that the body & mind can be out of balance, and how treatment can influence a change to allow the body to be more fluidly functional & balanced again. By understanding the person in front of me and what is happening to them, and what their world is right now. I can determine the right techniques with which to assist the body, and reduce discomfort, therefore making the body work for itself again. That work can help the whole self be at its optimal best, to allow the mind to also be calm. When the body works, the mind is calm and the whole unit can work together effectively and keep a person at ease.

This is my Osteopathy and it is ever-evolving: To understand you and what is your world and how I can bring you back to your fluidity
